چکیده

Obesity has become a world-wide epidemic, particularly in developed countries. It is associated with a number of serious morbidities, including Type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis and hypertension. The current cost of obesity/Type 2 diabetes syndromes to the U.S. economy is staggering estimated by some to be $ 1 00 billion annually. As alarming as these facts are, it is projected that if the present trend continues, by the year 2,010 some 50% of the U.S. population will be obese, and that of these 30 million will be afflicted with Type 2 diabetes (Fig. 1).

مقایسه سطح خونی هورمون لپتین در بیماران چاق دیابتی و غیردیابتی

Introduction: Leptin was first discovered from the "Ob Gene" by Friedwan and co-workers in 1994. It is a small peptide with 167 amino acids and molecular weight of 16 Kd . It is secreted by adipose tissues. Leptin has two type of receptors in Hypothalamus and other tissues including muscles, liver and intestines. Leptin inhibits neuropeptide Y resulting in decreased appetite and on the other ha...

The effects of losartan on memory performance and leptin resistance induced by obesity and high-fat diet in adult male rats

Objective(s): Leptin is a hormone secreted by adipose tissue and is involved not only in the regulation of feeding and energy expenditure, but also its role in memory enhancement has been demonstrated as well. The partial transfer of leptin across the blood-brain barrier in obese individuals causes leptin resistance and prevents leptin reaching brain. On the other hand, studies have show...

بررسی ارتباط لپتین با عوامل خطر بیماریهای عروق کرونر قلب در بیماران مبتلا به دیابت نوع II در مقایسه با افراد غیر دیابتی

Introduction & Objective: Leptin is considered to play an important role in the regulation of body weight and metabolism. Many studies have shown an association between BMI and leptin concentration. Our study compares the relationship between plasma leptin levels and risk factors for CHD in patients with type 2 diabetes and non-diabetic controls. Materials & Methods: A total of 88 patients w...
